In order to help stop the media’s misrepresentation of women, we must create awareness. Create posters and/or signs about how the media’s misrepresentation makes you feel, random facts or statistics about the media in relation to women, or create a poster or sign with the words I AMand under those words write as many words that you can think of, that describe you in a positive manner. Derek Hale meme: one OTP
#this fucking kills me#it’s gone from unwanted touches and repulsed reactions#to touches that come so easily there is not even intentional thought behind them#to touches that /do/ mean something#that are acted upon the exact intention to offer comfort and communicate without words (via mydearsourwolf)

Blue is just pretty
Oh, where to begin with why I love this scene.
Who are we kidding? I know exactly where.
In a featurette on the season 1 DVD, Tyler Hoechlin said Derek “loves every second of being a werewolf”. And he meant it, and that’s how he played it, and you could see it in things like how offended Derek was when Scott treated his transformation like a curse or a disease. You saw it in the way Hoechlin committed to every movement Derek made while wolfed out. Derek had a lot of pain, but his relationship to his lupine nature was not part of it. It was his solace.
But that changed, didn’t it? It changed when he realized who killed his sister, and who turned Scott. It changed when his only living family tried to snap his spine on a hospital wall. It changed when he dragged himself over broken glass away from Stiles so he wouldn’t have to see the last vestage of his pack be the monster Kate believed they all were.
After that, Derek’s identity as a werewolf became something toxic. He murdered his uncle and took on the alpha status, and it twisted him. He bit Jackson first. He hated Jackson. You remember that smile in the last frame of the s1 finale? He wasn’t giving Jackson a gift. That is not the smile of a benevolent leader. He was using the bite as a punishment.
He seduced the three teens into his back, preying on Isaac’s fear and vulnerability, outright propositioning Erica to exploit her lonliness and fear that she was undesirable, and presented himself as a panacea for Boyd’s isolation despite having lost every meaningful relationship he ever had. He mimiced the kind of behavior we saw from Kate, doing things the human way rather than the wolf way. I have no doubts as to how his mother would react if she saw the way he built up his pack, and I think he knew it. Derek was throwing his weight around like a rebellious teenager, trying to force lycanthropy to feel good again.
By season 3 he was so detached from his wolf side that he couldn’t even embrace his own sister. Cora, who sould have acted as a salve for the wounds losing his pack left behind, was reduced to little more than a soldier, a pack of convenience and necessity. Hell, he had undead Peter walking around as a physical reminder of how the wolf had betrayed him.
But look at him now. Sacrificing his power to save Cora (wherever she is now) healed something in him. I can’t remember the last time he used his powers as anything other than a tool, and here he is having fun with them.
He didn’t need to get candy for trick-or-treaters. He didn’t need to flash his eyes or bare his fangs just to scare a couple of kids. He didn’t need to interact with anyone for any reason. But he wanted to. He wanted to have fun, to connect with humanity, to give a couple of kids he’d never see again the kind of Halloween most kids only read about in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. And after that he smiled. A genuine, smug, self-satisfied smile with no ulterior motive but that he felt happy and smiled about it.
And it just keeps getting better. We’re seeing something in Derek we haven’t seen since season 1: the remnants of a stable werewolf childhood.
There’s a reason Derek knew about the kitsune but Ethan and Aiden, also two lifelong wolves and former alphas, didn’t. Because while Ethan and Aiden were kept as omegas, allowed on pack territory out of sufferance and denied status as full betas (another topic for another time), Derek was raised in a loving and supportive family and a well established pack under a very powerful alpha. Ethan and Aiden got pushed around and fed scraps, Derek got old stories and legends told around the dinner table and in front of the fireplace.
We tend to forget, in the face of how much Derek never got to learn from his pack, just how much he actually did. And we forget, after he’s suffered so much pain and tragedy, that underneath all the trauma Derek is a playful, competent, passionate, loyal wolf. Derek likes kids, and enjoys pulling pranks on Halloween*, and thinks nothing of evading the notice of a True Alpha while tailing him for an entire day, and remembers stories he was told as a child, and reads for fun, and speaks multiple languages, and craves touch and family more than anything.
And Derek Hale is finally healing, how wonderful is that?
*like another Beacon Hills resident I won’t name for fear of derailing.
